A house or a living room with a vintage charm and warmth of rustic interiors would make one want to lay back, relax and sail through the priceless trace of time. For those who own a living space endowed with the aesthetics of a retro and classy décor, unwinding after a busy day would be part of the daily schedule that is worth fancying about! And for those who aim to create a sort of an ambience, laden with a bit of earthy hues, a touch of quirk and a dash of warmth, a crash course in picking the ideal furniture and creativity to mix and match them with the existing resources would be quite handy.
To change the style with décor, there are three simple rules that you need to keep in mind.
- Assess what work or change you would like to bring into the current state of your living space.
- Be ready to experiment with décor pieces and curio that would fit the space well and compliment the aesthetics of the room and other essentials such as lighting, plumbing, windows, etc.
- Choose décor and furniture that would best express your personality and taste without itself being an obstacle.
Once you have decided on the above factors, be sure to choose the right colours. Be it the curtains, carpets, cushions, rugs or quilts, the colours and designs on them help differentiate your living room from that of a modern space. Choose prints that are sober, with a surprise or hints of designs that date back to the retro era like the checkered prints, peacock motifs, etc. Choose colours that are cheerful and those that you can associate with sunshine, it could be shades of Red, Orange, Brown as opposed to monotones and fluorescent shades.
Here’s one super cool DIY project using the simple technique of Decoupage, to beat the heat this summer!!
Thoroughly clean the surface of the fan to get rid of dust. Also, open up the cage of the fan to clean inside.
Select decoupage paper of your choice and cut it to the shape and size of the fan blades.
Use Fevicol/Fabric glue to stick the pattern papers onto the blades of the fan.
Make a solution using equal quantities of Fevicol and Fevicryl Acrylic White paint. Use this as a primer to coat those surfaces which you wish to paint.
Apply Primer wherever required. The primer aids the paint to adhere to the surface.
Use a sponge to dab paint of your choice wherever required. I have used Fevicryl Acrylic paint: Deep Brilliant Purple and Ultramarine Blue. Allow this to dry.
You can additionally add a coat of Fabric glue followed by varnish to seal your work.
That’s how I up-cycled a vintage table fan with the decoupage technique to give it a fresh summer makeover.
