HOME MADE PLAY DOUGH

I have been following prompts by other crafters in my circle and today I sat down to make taste safe play dough for my little one. This is in response to todays craft topic at the  HAPPYMOMENTZZ blog by Sharada Dilip Acharya who is a wondeful crafter and a dear friend.

Its not very easy to handle a toddler at home, especially one who loves his evening walks. So I made this real soft play dog that just seems fine and completely taste safe even if your little one is mouthing on things around.

Here are the ingredients that I used:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 4 tbsp lemon juice
  • Boiled water
  • Food Colour

So you knead the flour, salt oil, lemon juice into a dough by using as much water you feel is necessary to make your dough. You can then choose to make smaller sections or balls of the dough.

You can later add food colour to the individual smaller balls of dough and knead it further.

You are now ready with colourful play doh to play with.

STORAGE:

You can store these in airtight containers in the refrigerator.

POST EDIT:

With a lot of people trying to make the play doh after the recent blog post, a few had queries and wanted me to do a video on the same.
So I have one on my channel:

QUICK TIP:

  • If you donot have food colour at home, you can atleast make 3 shades of the dough. Leave one as it is, that make white, and add some turmeric powder(haldi) to the other one for yellow, and if you have good quality vermillion(kumkum) then this can be used for red.
  • I have missed out on adding oil in the video, I guess I was a little tensed while making it so it slipped out of my mind. Yoj can first add Vegetable oil to the dough and then start adding water when required. The oil helps in keeping the dough moist.

Do let me know if you try this recipe.

Happy Crafting,

Shantha
